How can I access other emails from my yahoo email address?

I mean other than the answers team emails. I'm trying to make a YouTube account and YouTube tells me to check my inbox so I did and nada! What can I do and how can I access my emails from friends and YouTube and stuff? 10 points goes to the best answer!
