How do u make internet network connections?

i just installed windows xp and i have a completely blank computer with basic windows... i have no network connections i open it up and its completely blank nothing nada... i need to know how make network connections so i can use my dsl modem... the internet is proprerly hooked up nothing is wrong hardware or cable wise... my internet works on my labtop... yes i been to a lot of sights and none of them helped.. at all nothing is wrong except the network connections are not there they dont exhist... and i am not super computer savvay .. so please someone help...
